Vintage Platinum Ring with a peridot weighs 4.8g and measures 12mm wide and 7mm deep. This conspicuous 1930's peridot
Vintage Ring of classic elegance and meticulous craftsmanship exposes a significant 5.83ct round brilliant-cut faceted peridot, measuring 10mm in diameter, graded an enchanting 'vivid-chartreuse' color and 'very good' clarity. This vivacious gemstone is secured by ornately designed, quintessentially 1930's style multiple claw-prongs, mounted within an artfully pierced, basket-shaped setting incorporating delicate Greek-key motif profiles. Gracefully arched and shielded shoulders enriched with intricate reedings merge into a spherical platinum band and an easily sizable shank.
The modern birthstone for August, peridot is an ancient gemstone that is currently very popular. Discovered in Egyptian jewelry as far back as the early second millennium BC, peridots at the time originated from an occurrence on a volcanic island in the Red Sea which was rediscovered around 1900 and has been completely exploited ever since. The ancient Romans cherished this vivid-color gemstone and named it the ‘Evening Emerald’. Many medieval churches in Europe were decorated with peridot as can be seen in the Cologne Cathedral amongst others. Not long ago, beautiful transparent peridot occurrences were discovered in the Kashmir region while in the 1990's peridot was the great sensation exhibited at gemstone trade fairs all around the world partly due to the discovery of rich occurrences in Pakistan which brought a quality of peridot graded as finer than anything seen before.
