This men's bloodstone Victorian Ring is crafted in 14k yellow gold, weighs 7.7g and measures 22mm wide and 3mm deep. This authentic, classically distinct Victorian Men’s Rings is designed as an ovular plaque deep-mounted with an oval-carved bloodstone measuring 21mm long and 14mm wide, graded 'rusty-brown & grayish-green' color. This attractive gemstone sprinkled with alluring red spots is deep-mounted within a foiled-back ovular setting and Exposed atop a plainly elegant, curvilinear gallery. Substantial, tapering shoulders enriched with scalloped borders and solitaire perforations enhance the valiant aesthetic of this Victorian men's bloodstone ring and merge into a sturdy yellow gold band and an easily sizable shank.

A green variety of chalcedony quartz dotted with bright red spots, bloodstone is also known as ‘heliotrope’, derived from two Greek words meaning ‘sun and turning’. In ancient times, polished stones were described as reflecting the sun and the attractive appearance of bloodstone reminded the ancients of the red setting sun, mirrored in the ocean. The traditional birthstone for the month of March along with aquamarine, bloodstone was treasured and often used by Medieval Christians to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs, for which reason it was referred to as ‘the martyr's stone’. According to a legend about the origin of bloodstone, it was first formed as drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. A beautiful example of carved bloodstone with the seal of the German Emperor Rudolf II is amongst the unique collections at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
