This Victorian opal Antique Ring with old mine-cut diamonds is crafted in 14k yellow gold, weighs 2.4g and measures 11 wide and 6mm deep. This aesthetically alluring opal Victorian Ring of classic elegance and refinement is designed as an ovular plaque resplendent in opal and old mine-cut diamonds. The lively assemblage is centered with a delightful 0.85ct oval opal cabochon, measuring 6.62mm long and 6.11mm wide, colored with 'vivid flashes of chartreuse'. An ovular, subtly scalloped perimeter mounted with 0.20cts of high quality old mine-cut diamonds graded H color and SI clarity range, encircles the captivating center-stone, mounted within quintessentially Victorian style elongated prongs creating an enchanting openwork gallery. This original Victorian opal ring of elegant finesse and absorbing aesthetic grace concludes with a spherical yellow gold band and an easily sizable shank.

Reflected in the manifold opulence of fine opals is all the splendor of nature; fire, lightning, colors of the rainbow and the shine of the far seas. Numerous legends surround this colorful gemstone, which can be traced back to the ancient time of Australian aborigines. One tale recounts that the creator came down to earth on a rainbow to bestow peace upon all human beings and, as his feet touched the ground, all stones beneath them began sparkling in all the colors of the rainbow. That, according to the legend, was the birth of the opals. Australia is in fact the opal's classical country of origin with ninety-five percent of all fine opals originating from its remote and dry deserts. The history of opals began millions of years ago when parts of Australia were covered by a vast inland sea and stone sediment was deposited along the shoreline. With the flooding back of water masses, water-containing silica was flushed back into the cavities of the sedimentary rocks and the resulting silica stone was gradually transformed into opal.
